About Belize

Belize is small (population of about 440000) but culturally rich country in Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. It was formerly known as a British Honduras and gained its independence from Britain in 1981.

The country has a diverse population that includes various ethnic groups such as Mestizo, Creole, Mayan, Garifuna, Mennonites and others. The official language of Belize is English.

Belize is known for its stunning natural beauty, including Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. The country also boast lush rainforests, ancient Maya ruins like Caracol, Xunantunich, and Lamanai, and famous Blue Hole, a massive underwater sinkhole.

Tourism is a significant part of Belize's economy, attracting visitors with its vibrant marine life, adventure activities, and cultural experiences. The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Belizean people adds to the charm of this Caribbean gem.
